So, what is dextrin?

Dextrin is a carbohydrate derived from starch and commonly used as a food ingredient. It is created by breaking down starch molecules through a process known as hydrolysis. Dextrin is a white or yellowish powder that is soluble in water and has a slightly sweet taste. It is often added to foods to improve their texture, increase their viscosity, and act as a binding agent. Dextrin can also be used as a thickener in soups, sauces, and gravies, as well as in the production of baked goods, confectionery, and beverages. Additionally, dextrin is a common ingredient in sports drinks and nutritional supplements due to its ability to provide a quick source of energy.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like dextrin?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
