So, what is lactose.?

Lactose is a naturally occurring sugar found in milk and dairy products. It is a disaccharide made up of glucose and galactose, and it is an essential carbohydrate for the growth and development of mammals. However, many people are unable to digest lactose due to a deficiency in the enzyme lactase. This condition, known as lactose intolerance, can cause gastrointestinal discomfort such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Lactose is also a common ingredient in processed foods, including baked goods, candies, and medications, and it is often used as a filler or sweetener.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like lactose.?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
