So, what is pimento?

Pimento, also known as allspice or Jamaican pepper, is a spice that is native to Central America and the Caribbean. It is the dried, unripe fruit of the Pimenta dioica tree and is prized for its warm, sweet, and slightly peppery flavor that is reminiscent of a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Pimento is commonly used in Caribbean, Latin American, and Middle Eastern cuisine to flavor meats, stews, sauces, and baked goods. It is also a popular ingredient in pickling and canning recipes, as its vibrant red color and tangy flavor make it a great addition to relishes, chutneys, and dressings.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like pimento?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
