So, what is whelk?

Whelks are a type of sea snail commonly found in the coastal waters of the North Atlantic and the North Sea. They have a hard, pointed shell that is typically gray or brown in color and can grow up to six inches in length. Whelks are considered a delicacy in many parts of the world and are commonly used in seafood dishes. They have a firm, slightly chewy texture and a sweet, slightly briny flavor. Whelks can be prepared in a variety of ways, including steamed, boiled, or pan-fried, and are often served with garlic butter or lemon juice. They are also a good source of protein and other essential nutrients.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like whelk?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
